🍍 January 2026 – January of Abundance

Posted January 15, 2026

This year has started fruitfully as the Abiu trees (Pouteria caimito) loaded up with fruits once more. We're also getting a steady stream of custard apples (Annona mucosa), sundrops (Eugenia victoriana), our cacao trees (Theobroma cacao) are coming in steady, and the pineapples are also starting to pop off. πŸ˜‹

During the dry months we also harvest some of our semi-perennial crops such as turmeric, hibiscus flowers, and arrow root. These are the ideal months for harvesting and drying them, which we've begun to do the past couple of weeks.

It's already been a much more abundant January than last year, and if this trend continues I'm really excited for what else is coming around the corner. We already have a new tree bearing its very first fruit, which is the first of its kind on our farm--a red custard apple (Annona reticulata).

Around the end of last year I made a yield projection graph using AI. I wanted to get an idea of when our farm with truly start to produce significant harvests. It's a rough guide since I didn't indicate how many of each tree we have. I simply put in the main varieties and the years that they were planted. The graph looks like a tidal wave, and we're just starting to climb the slope. It looks like in 2026 we'll get more than double the harvests we got in 2025--and that's assuming we only have one of each tree! The reality will presumably be exponentially higher, considering that we have over seventy jackfruit trees alone. 😳
