Birdwatching & Photography

Wake up to the sounds of toucans and tanagers greeting the day. La Floresta is a regenerating tropical cloud forest that serves as a refuge for resident and migratory bird species alike. As pasture has transformed into diverse habitat, birdlife has steadily increased year after year.

Our farm offers a peaceful setting for birdwatchers and nature lovers who want to experience Costa Rica’s avian diversity away from crowds and busy tourist destinations. Whether you enjoy quiet observation, photography, or simply listening to the forest come alive, La Floresta provides an intimate and rewarding experience.

Nature Trails & Guided Walks

A network of gentle nature trails winds through different areas of the farm, including young food forest, secondary forest, and mature trees that attract a wide variety of bird species. These trails allow for slow, respectful exploration and excellent visibility for birdwatching and photography.

Birdwatching visits can be self-guided or accompanied by someone familiar with the land and its birdlife. Early mornings and late afternoons are especially active times, when birds are feeding, calling, and moving through the canopy and understory.

Birdlife at La Floresta

Over time, hundreds of bird species have been recorded on the property, ranging from tiny understory specialists to colorful canopy dwellers. Many migratory species stop here seasonally, while others are year-round residents supported by the forest’s increasing diversity.

Below are just a small selection of birds photographed on the farm by visiting birdwatchers, photographers, and local naturalists.
