🌿 December 2025 – Year of the Abiu

Abiu @ The Market

As the rains subside we're getting ready to welcome in a new year. Looking back on 2025 I can say that it was the year of the Abiu fruit (Pouteria caimito). These refreshing, yummy yellow fruits came in hot this year. Back in July we were harvesting basket fulls. We had so many that we even sold them at the local farmer's market.

Cut to December and the Abiu trees are loaded up again! We are awaiting a second harvest coming soon. Last year was the year of the Biriba (Rollinia mucosa), which we've been harvesting a bit this year too--but not nearly as abundant as last year. They say trees often take a rest after a year of abundance. Those are also yummy yellow fruits, though much different. Biriba is like nature's sweet lemon yogurt.

Besides that we also got harvests from three different Jackfruit trees (Artocarpus heterophyllus), and one Chempejack (cross between Jackfruit/Cempedack). Each one was as delicious as it was unique. Things are getting exciting here at La Floresta as more and more trees give their first fruits. Let's see what next year brings! 😋
